Boys Circumcision

Introduction & Indications

At Thornhill Circumcision Centre At Thornhill Circumcision Centre in Luton, we offer professional boys’ circumcision services for boys aged 3 to 12 years. Our clinic is a trusted choice for parents seeking boys’ circumcision, providing care in a safe, clinical setting. Circumcision in this age group may be performed for religious, cultural, personal or medical reasons.

Common medical indications include recurrent infections (such as balanitis), a tight foreskin (phimosis), or hygiene concerns, which may make circumcision a recommended medical option for boys.

Our experienced team provides pain-free boys’ circumcision surgery and a child-friendly environment that helps boys and parents feel comfortable and informed throughout the process.

Preparation

Before the procedure, we offer a full consultation with our clinician to discuss your child’s medical history, reasons for circumcision, assessment and examination, and to explain the procedure and aftercare for boys of different ages.

You will have the opportunity to ask any questions or express concerns to your expert urologists, whether you are considering circumcision for your boy for medical or personal reasons.

Preparation Includes:

  • Ensure your child is well and has not had any recent illnesses, especially any viral infection.
  • Have light food and drink for a few hours before the procedure.
  • Dress your child in loose, comfortable clothing.

It is crucial to explain the process to your child in a calm, age-appropriate manner, as this can help reduce anxiety during circumcision.

Methods Used

At Thornhill Circumcision Centre, we tailor the procedure to each child’s age and anatomy, using the most appropriate and safe technique for boys’ circumcision.

Our clinicians are skilled in the following methods:

Ring (Circumplast/Plastibell): Most commonly used in younger children, this involves placing a small plastic ring under the foreskin. A suture tied around the foreskin over the ring cuts off the blood supply, and the foreskin falls off naturally within 7–10 days.

Stitches (Surgical Method): In some cases, especially in older children, we may perform a traditional boys’ circumcision using dissolvable stitches. This method allows precise control and is often chosen based on individual anatomy or family preference.

Glue (Tissue Adhesive): For selected cases, including circumcision procedures for baby boys, skin glue may be used as an alternative to stitches. This provides a secure and neat closure, which may result in less discomfort during the healing process.

Our surgeons/urologists will guide you on the most suitable option for your child, whether you are seeking boys’ circumcision or a baby boy’s circumcision in our clinic.

Results

We recently took our son Jaxon to Thornhill Clinic for his circumcision and were thoroughly impressed by the entire experience. The staff and doctors were exceptionally professional, warm, and attentive, ensuring we felt fully informed and reassured throughout. The clinic maintained impeccable hygiene standards, which gave us complete peace of mind. The procedure itself was swift and pain-free for our son, with the team explaining every detail clearly and addressing all our concerns.

As a single revert mother, I felt fully informed and supported from booking through to the procedure. My 4-year-old son, with autistic traits, was gently cared for post-op by Nurse Emma. Dr Khan began the procedure with ‘Bismillah’, creating a calm, respectful space—we completed everything smoothly with all comforts provided. Three days on, my son is thriving: playful, pain-free, and embracing salt baths. Alhamdulillah, I highly recommend this clinic.
I brought my 3 year old son in for a circumcision with Dr Ruhul Amin. We were very anxious as he is slightly older and more fidgety, but the whole procedure from beginning to end was fantastic - they were fast, friendly and efficient, and the nurses were so good with my child, they handled him with care and attention so he wasn't so upset, considering what happened!

Highly recommend this clinic for circumcisions! 10/10!

Aftercare

Proper aftercare is crucial to ensure a smooth healing process and prevent complications following circumcision. You will be given detailed aftercare instructions before leaving the centre, which typically include:

  • Keeping the area clean and dry for the first 3 days.
  • After three days, apply a recommended ointment to prevent sticking and promote healing.
  • Giving appropriate pain relief (e.g., paracetamol or ibuprofen).
  • Monitoring for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or discharge after circumcision.
  • Read the email for aftercare.

Most boys return to normal activities after two weeks, although sports and swimming should be avoided until the healing process is complete, usually about 3–4 weeks after circumcision.
